ABOUT.
My name Is Charlie. And I love bins.

Since leaving University in 2013 in North Wales I have had a variety of jobs, focusing around the environmental sector, in waste and recycling specifically, and on behaviour change.

A constant for me though for a number of years has been to photograph bins. You see, it all started when I got a book from the National Gallery in London when I was around 12, just filled with pictures of bins. I find them fascinating. They are objects that we see on a daily basis, but rarely think much about and just walk on by.
They come in all shapes and sizes: brightly coloured; faces painted on; made to look like animals; not to look like a bin; just a basket or simply nothing at all, just a rubbish pile with people picking through to pull out the recycling.

This website is a culmination of years of photographing bins and finally doing something with them. It is a thank you to my friends and family for putting up with me taking these photos when on holiday or out on day trips across the UK and beyond.
I hope that if anything, it will encourage you notice these items, and maybe think a bit differently about them. About the people who work within the waste industry. And about how you can maybe reduce your waste.
